iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11: Changes and Differences Between Both Phones | ITIGIC (1)

Some think that to change iPhone, the most sensible thing to always skip a generation to perceive more important changes. According to this method, an iPhone 11 user should keep their phone until the iPhone 13 arrives next year. To get out of doubt, let’s take a closer look at the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 to see what has changed and all the differences between them.

That the differences between one generation and the next are not many, it is something that not only happens in Apple iPhones, 365 days are not enough to notice a technological leap that encourages many users to get the new model. Something similar happens with this year’s iPhone 12, since despite interesting news, there are other elements that remain unchanged.

Display and layout

The first thing that catches our attention is that the new iPhone 12 has managed to stylize its thickness and weight a lot. In this case and despite the fact that they are very similar aesthetically, the user will perceive it in the hand in a remarkable way. The iPhone 12 is 7.4 millimeters thick and weighs 164 grams, compared to 8.3 millimeters and 194 grams for the iPhone 11.

Apple has kept the same 6.1-inch size of the iPhone 11 in the new model. However, there are notable differences in the type of panel. The iPhone 12 sports a Super Retina XDR OLED display, compatible with HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Its resolution is 1,170 x 2,532 pixels with a density of 460 dpi. Also, the ratio of the screen to the frames is 86%.

iPhone 12

The iPhone 11 has a Liquid Retina IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 828 x 1,792 pixels, 326 dpi and a screen-to-body ratio of 79%. Both have an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and are resistant to water and dust thanks to their IP68 certificate. However, the iPhone 12 can be submerged 6 meters for 30 minutes according to Apple data, while the iPhone 11 reduces this depth to 2 meters.

Bionic stem

When we lift the hood of both terminals, we see the logical difference of comparing two generations. The iPhone 12 sports the new A15 Bionic processor, manufacturing in a 5nm process. For its part, the iPhone 11, has the A13 Bionic from last year. The same storage options are offered in the two terminals, that is, 64, 128 or 256 GB variants. Although Apple does not reveal it, both have 4GB of RAM.

In terms of performance, the user will not notice practically differences between the two devices. If we take into account the scores of some of the most popular performance programs such as AnTuTu, this minimal difference becomes evident. The iPhone 12 has reached peaks that exceed 573,000 points, while the iPhone 11 exceeds 501,000 points.

Cameras “almost” traced

We find a traced configuration in terms of cameras in both terminals, where the changes are minimal. Both feature a 12-megapixel wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle dual camera system. Both also offer optical image stabilization and digital zoom up to 5X . The differences are minimal but reflected by Apple itself. The iPhone 12 can record video in HDR with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps, a feature not present in the iPhone 11. On the front, the 12 megapixel TrueDepth camera remains, but once again, the iPhone 12 can record videos in HDR with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps.

Battery and connections

Apple has made a masterful move with the iPhone 12. The company has taken advantage of the generational leap in the manufacture of the A14 Bionic and its 5nm , to achieve the same autonomy with fewer milliamps. This has allowed it to integrate a considerably smaller battery than that of the iPhone 11, reducing the thickness and weight of the device as we have seen previously. In this sense, the iPhone 12 has 2,815 mAh, compared to the 3,110 mAh of the iPhone 11. However, Apple details the same autonomy for both terminals. This means they can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes, with a 20W or higher adapter.

We find the main connections such as NFC, Bluetooth 5 or GPS. Of course there is no trace of a 3.5mm jack on either device. Of course, both move with iOS 14 and all the news of the new Apple layer. This means that at a functional level, the two terminals are twins.

Prices and conclusions

Right now, the price differences between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 11 are abysmal. If we take into account the base version of 64 GB, we will have to pay 909 euros. The iPhone 11 for its part, can be purchased in the same version for 673.65 euros . We are therefore facing a difference of 243 euros between both terminals. In this case, and given the minimal differences, going from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 12 may not make much sense at the moment. In addition, if we do not have either of the two teams, the iPhone 11 seems like a more succulent option due to its current price. However and as always, the last word is the portfolio of each one.
